Our journey will commence at 2 pm, starting at Zelenih Beretki 30, and from there, we’ll embark on a captivating exploration of one of the capital’s most remarkable destinations.

Along the way, we will make a brief stop at the Markale market, a site where one of the most devastating massacres unfolded during the siege of Sarajevo. We’ll also traverse Sniper’s Avenue, once regarded as one of the most perilous areas in the entire city during the war, where any passerby risked being caught in the crossfire.

Our next destination will be the entrance to the Sarajevo Tunnel, renowned as the Tunnel of Hope, a construction that emerged in 1993 as a lifeline for escaping the confines of the besieged city. Venturing into this subterranean passageway, situated five meters beneath the Sarajevo airport runway, we will gain firsthand insights into the strategies employed by those who traversed it. Surprisingly, escapees had to don masks in this confined space due to the absence of adequate ventilation.

The Tunnel of Hope served as a vital link connecting the neighborhoods of Dobrinja, located within the Serb siege lines, and Butmir, situated beyond the city limits. Spanning a mere 800 meters, it symbolized freedom and a fresh start for over 3,000 individuals who crossed its threshold daily. Our tour will conclude at 4 pm as we return to our starting point at the meeting spot.
